We produced and directed "The Girls Project" documentary and website, combining reality TV and documentary formats to create a hybrid product that teaches as it entertains. In the video, five high school girls interview feminist artists and examine works of art that address mental, physical and emotional health issues affecting women. The companion website for the program includes curriculum suggestions and discussion outlines for teachers.
“Just ran into an artist/woman who was at the show… She was so touched she wrote a check for 100 bucks to Mainely Girls to help them keep doing what they do.
…”A client of mine who brought her daughter said that they talked about it all the way home and that it was VERY useful to them and their relationship with each other. Again, I think this has such wide appeal for all ages. One of the reasons I think this is so, is that even though older women may know a lot about the societal pressures, they have not had intergenerational talks. It will be very interesting to see what men think about it.” Mary Rae Means, Executive Director, Mainely Girls
